Look of the Day: The New Icons

Today’s look of the day is as simple as it gets: black and white, jeans and t-shirt, and a little bit of sparkle. It doesn’t get easier than that, right?

I love this H&M “The New Icons” t-shirt, but must admit I usually like my tees to be more fitted and therefore more flattering to my fairly small waist. Nonetheless, I hope the shiny faux-diamond necklace and big hair, which I looooved by the way, brought the focus to my face instead.

Now, if you want to focus further south, then please do it on my white pumps. Not long ago, white shoes would’ve been the last thing to see on anybody’s feet, and for sure a big no-no to wear with a mostly black outfit, but all of the sudden white shoes are white hot! And that just goes to show you how volatile fashion really is. In fashion, rules are made to be broken, and what’s a “yes” and  a “no” are interchangeable at any given moment.

My friend Christina got to experience that last statement in person when I went over to her place a couple of days ago. I was there to help her remix her wardrobe, and for sure fashion “rules” were broken and several risk-taking yet very fashionable outfits were put together. We had so much fun, and I loved how open-minded she was about every suggestion I had for her. Of course we barely got thru half of her closet in the 4 hours I was there, but we still managed to do some impressive work, if I do say so myself, LOL. Just to give you an idea, we worked with 17 skirts, 17 tops, 7 pants, and 12 pairs of shoes, and we created 30 new outfit combinations that she had never considered or even thought about before! We were able to give new life to items she hadn’t worn in literally years; we also created some interesting combinations mixing her work clothes with her casual clothes, and even gave new purpose to some items. Seriously ladies, I’m telling you, start shopping your own closet and you’ll be surprised to find out how utterly wrong you’ve been every time you’ve whined about having nothing to wear. Christina happily discovered she actually has tons of things to wear, and I was more than happy to help her make that discovery.

Fashion Fairytale Fantasy. Part I

If you are a girly girl like me, then you have probably at some point in your life dreamed about wearing a tulle skirt for a day around town,  feeling like either a fairytale princess or, in my case,  like Carrie Bradshaw. Well, that dream finally came true for me last week and I enjoyed every second of it. What’s even better is that my friend Viviana and her marvelous skills as a photographer were there to capture it all.

I had so much fun doing this photo shoot with her, back in my hometown. We went to the Cathedral and the main town plaza, where people were so sweet and encouraging with their comments about the outfit,  which made it even easier to just let our creative juices flow. The results, in my humble opinion, are fantastic. But I’ll let you judge them for yourselves.

Many pictures turn out from this shoot (more prove of how talented my friend is!) so I am posting some of them here today, and the rest you can come back and check out tomorrow (some of my favorites from the shoot will be posted then so definitely come back to check them out).

Of course I can’t end this post without giving a big fat thanks to Viviana for agreeing to this collaboration, and for making the experience of it so wonderful. Hopefully, we get to do it again soon!

Now, I leave you with the pictures, and don’t forget to leave your comments.

And the winner is…

After a hectic and wonderful couple of days, I was finally able to sit down and do the random draw to pick the winner of the Holiday Giveaway 2012. Not to add more to the suspense of the announcement, but first let me clarify what method I used to guarantee that the draw was in fact random. I assigned the participants a number based on their place in the giveaway entry line, meaning the first person to enter the giveaway was assigned the number one, the second person to enter the giveaway was number two, and so on and so forth. Then I used a random number generator I found on Google, and the number it generated is now the official winner of the Holiday Giveaway 2012.

Now the winner of the lovely necklace and bracelet is… drum-roll please… Dalia Bahena!!!

She happens to be a good friend of mine, and also the tenth person to enter the giveaway, and number 10 was her lucky number, so congratulations!!!

I will personally be contacting her to let her know about her win (although I’m pretty sure she’s reading this)  and arrange the delivery method of her grand prize.

Thank you all who participated, and to those who didn’t win, don’t worry, there will be more giveaways to come in the future, so stay tuned.

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas, and wishing a fabulous rest of your week my darlings.
