Oscars 2013

You didn’t think I was going to skip listing my favorite dresses at the Oscars, did you? I was really excited to see tons of pretty dresses and celebrities looking their best this past Sunday, granted there were also a couple disappointments, but I rather focus on the positive. So here I bring you my top 5, which was actually quite difficult to narrow down since I really had favorites beyond this list, but let’s keep it short and simple, shall we?

I adored this Dior dress on Charlize Theron, which was a bit surprising even to myself because the dress it’s reminiscing of the Chanel dress Anne Hathaway wore to the Golden Globes this year and of Kate Hudson’s Marchesa dress at the Golden Globes 2010. Nevertheless, Ms. Theron really makes this look her own and kills it. Maybe it has something to do with her edgy pixie cut, but it just wowed me.

This Valentino worn by Sally Field is one of my favorites, not only because the dress is gorgeous, feminine and very elegant on its own, but also because she proves that fashion and pretty dresses are ageless. One usually associates older women with wearing darker colors and more matronly designs, but that doesn’t have to always be the case, so thank you Sally Field for proving it.

Someone else proving fashion, color and design can be ageless when done right is admirable Jane Fonda. I loved her bold choice with this Versace dress, and beyond that, do I need to say more? I think just looking at how amazing she looks is enough. And doesn’t she seem to be ageless as well? I mean look at that ridiculously body! She must be hiding the fountain of youth somewhere, seriously.

This dress represents two of my favorite trends on the red carpet lately: sparkle and metallics. Naeem Khan really hit it out of the park with this exquisite design, and Stacy Keibler looks like she was made for it. A perfect pairing indeed.

I know what you might be thinking, my choices for #2 and #1 seem a bit redundant with all the sparkle and gun metal color, but I just loved them both so much, I just couldn’t cut one out of my list. However I picked Naomi Watts’ Armani Privé as my number one choice because to make all those sequins and that shoulder cut-out look as if they were painted on her, it takes a real haute couture master as Mr. Giorgio Armani.

There you have it, my top 5. Now, who were your favorite at the Oscars? Please share!

SAG Awards 2013

I don’t know about you but I was rather unimpressed with the SAG Awards red carpet last night. Don’t get me wrong, there were plenty of pretty dresses around but when it comes to a big award show like that, I expect more than pretty dresses, I expect to be wowed.
Anyway, despite the lack of wow factor for me, I do have my top 5 of pretty dresses ready for you, and here they are:

I appreciate Julie Bowen switching it up a bit, and going for the not-so-usual leather gown in this Johanna Johnson number, of which I also like the shoulders detail.

I am a big fan of Elie Saab’s designs, and this one on Nina Dobrev is quite pretty. I love the color and the fact that it has sleeves, but definitely what makes this dress is the oh-so-trendy sheer paneling.

I really enjoyed watching Anne Hathaway’s Giambattista Valli Haute Couture design on TV during the actual award show, but I was disappointed to see that this dress didn’t translate very well in pictures. So, I decided to add a picture of it from the actual runway show so you can appreciate it better. I know it’s a little out there with all the sheer fabric, beading and big puffy skirt, which might not make it a favorite for many, but I think the designer did a good job of somehow making it all work.

And speaking of lady in red (in reference to this post), Jessica Chastain perfectly proves my point that a little red dress and classic accessories make for a timeless look that will never ever go out of style. She also proves that redheads can kick the old myth of having to avoid red clothing to the curb, and embrace how fabulous they can look in this hue. However, it was ultimately the old Hollywood glamour and sexiness of this Alexander McQueen creation that got it a spot on my list.

And here you have it, my absolute favorite of the night! And I’m as surprised as you are that my number one spot didn’t belong to any of Hollywood’s favorite fashionistas, but Jane Krakowski (and her stylist!) did a superb job picking this Kaufmanfranco design. I love the unexpected sequined color, the deep V neckline, the detail at the waist, and how it was accesorized to perfection. From head to toe, she looks beyond beautiful, she looks simply delectable (peach-orange sherbet anyone?).

Golden Globes 2013

I’m sure you have seen plenty about this year’s Golden Globes dresses already, but I figured I would share my favorites with you. I liked a lot of dresses in this red carpet, so it was hard to pick a top 5, but here you go:

#5

I love this Jenny Packham dress, not only is it perfect to show a growing baby bump, but I actually would’ve liked it even in someone not pregnant as well. It is simply beautiful.

#4

I know this look is one of those that could easily be on the fence about whether it is sexy or tacky, but to me is purely sexy. I think it was styled to perfection from head to toe, paired with the right shoes, accessories, hair and make up. However, the real difference between sexy and tacky possibly lies in the way it was carried, and Katherine McPhee definitely did it with class and sophistication.

#3

I am obsessed with Rosie Huntington Whiteley’s style, from her street style to her looks on the red carpet, she just never disappoints. And considering I am also obsessed with bow tied apparel, whether it’s lovely blouses or  flowy dresses, what can I say? I just couldn’t resist adding this Saint Laurent dress to my list.

#2

I wasn’t sure about adding this look to my list just because it was so annoyingly predictable, but the gown is daringly beautiful in that way that Zuhair Murad has perfected so well. Plus nobody could possibly wear it better than Jennifer Lopez and her equally daring curves,  so there you have it, hats off to both J.Lo and the designer.

It had to be Alexander McQueen!! Hands down my favorite look on the red carpet. It is simple and ornate at the same time, covered with just the right amount of sexiness, classic yet modern… it is just perfect. Also, I loved that it is quite a different look for Kate Hudson’s usually boho chic style, and since I love surprises, this fashion turn in her repertoire is definitely a happy surprise for me.

Now, which looks were you favorites  at this year’s Golden Globes? Please share, I would love to know!!
